Noel Smith, the Editor

Dr. Noel Smith was the comsummate editor of a Baptist publication. He was a wordsmith and an artist in his writings. His analysis of world affairs was unequalled among his peers. His understanding of scriptural truths brought a depth to us all. His Tennessee roots allowed his highest compliment of a man to be, "a Gentleman."

It was my privilege to know him. He once invited me to his office where we talked alone for an hour. Papers were stacked on every surface in the room but he no doubt knew where to find any item he needed. He was interested in my thoughts on some things ... I was incredibly humbled by his kindness of listening to a man less than half his age.

A month later he died.

It was my honor to shake his hand, to read his writings, and to sit in his office. I miss him even now when we could use his insight and his sense of humor.
